Gradual PHP application migration in Luxembourg

Has your PHP application become impossible to maintain? Does every change cause a regression, and has your language version stopped receiving security fixes?

Based in Luxembourg, Deepy Consulting modernises your application without rewriting it. After a 10-day rapid audit (from €5,000 excl. VAT), we replace it module by module, business logic and data included: old and new systems run side by side, and your product keeps evolving throughout.

  • PHP
  • Node.js
  • React
  • Regression testing

How it works, step by step

  1. The rapid audit: measure the debt

Language, framework and dependency versions, test coverage, incident history: we find the areas that make every change expensive, not every imperfection in the code.

What you get: an application map, the technical debt costed and ranked by business impact, a target architecture and the migration order.

Indicative timeline: 10 working days, from €5,000 excl. VAT.

  2. Put a safety net in place

Before moving anything, we need to be able to prove nothing broke: tests on the critical journeys, automated deployment, monitoring.

What you get: regression tests on the journeys that matter and an automated delivery pipeline.

  3. Replace it module by module

A routing layer sends each feature to either the old or the new application. We move the most expensive modules first, one at a time, in production. This is the strangler fig pattern: the new system grows around the old one until it replaces it.

What you get: migrated modules, each live in production before work starts on the next.

  4. Switch off the old stack

Once the last module has moved, we remove the old code and its hosting, and leave a documented application behind: your team can evolve it on its own, or we keep maintaining and evolving it over the long term.

What you get: the old stack decommissioned, up-to-date architecture and operations documentation.

Sound familiar?

Does every change break something else?

The code grew by accretion, without tests: a change in one place causes a regression somewhere else, and releases slow down quarter after quarter. We cover the journeys that matter first, then move the most fragile modules off the old stack.

Is your PHP version out of support?

The application runs on a language or framework version that no longer gets security fixes, and upgrading stalls on abandoned dependencies. We map the upgrade path one dependency at a time, without taking the service down.

Is this for you?

A good fit if…

  • The application does real work and cannot go dark for months.
  • The product has to keep evolving while it is modernised.
  • You would rather run a series of measurable, delivered steps than bet on one big switch.
  • You need a partner to maintain and evolve the application after the migration, or to prepare it for an in-house team to take over.

Not the right fit if…

  • The application is small and stable: a version upgrade will do, and we will tell you so.
  • The business logic itself needs rethinking from scratch: that is a new product, not a modernisation.

Frequently asked questions

Why not just rewrite it?

A full rewrite freezes the product for as long as it takes, and the old code holds business rules nobody wrote down anywhere else: they resurface late and the schedule slips. Incremental migration delivers value at each step, and can stop at any point without leaving a half-finished project behind.

How much does a modernisation cost?

The initial audit starts at €5,000 excl. VAT for 10 working days: an application map, the technical debt costed, a target architecture and the migration order. Its scope and price are agreed up front. The following steps are estimated at the end of the audit, before you commit to anything.

Do we have to move away from PHP?

Not necessarily. The problem is often less the language than an outdated version, missing tests and an architecture that grew without a plan. The target is chosen around who will maintain the application: your team, the people you can hire, or us. We migrate either to PHP 8 (Symfony or Laravel) or to Node.js, with a preference for Node.js and React when nothing requires staying on PHP.

Do you work outside Luxembourg, in Metz for example?

Our office is in Esch-sur-Alzette, right on the French border. We work on site in Luxembourg, Metz and Thionville. Beyond that, we work fully remotely and travel to France, Belgium or Luxembourg when a project calls for it.

Talk it through with one of our engineers. Twenty minutes is usually enough to tell whether we are the right people for it.
